LOS ANGELES -- As Corey Seager dug in against Javier Lopez in Saturday's 4-3 loss, there wasn't much from the game, this season or the opponent to expect power from the Dodgers' young star. And yet, the 21-year-old found a way to get ahold of a pitch and send it over the center-field wall to bring his club within one run.
Seager had been 0-for-3 in the game, consistently fooled by Johnny Cueto in one of the right-hander's stronger outings. He had been slugging .341, more than 200 points below last season's mark. Lopez hadn't allowed a home run to a left hander since May 2014.
However, all of that added up to a 405-foot home run, as projected by Statcast™. Manager Dave Roberts took that equation as a sign of Seager's maturity as a hitter.
"You see Cueto from the windup, he just kinda disrupts timing," Roberts said. "For Corey to put that aside and bear down in that last at-bat against Javier Lopez, who's one of the best against lefties, extending the at-bat, fouling some pitches off, and getting the pitch elevated and hitting it out into center field, that was just his maturity and his will to get it done and not give away an at-bat, so that was fun to watch actually."

Seager said after the game that patience with Lopez was key, considering the home run was the fifth ball Seager made contact with against Lopez in the at-bat.
Seager was just the 10th left-handed hitter to go yard against the 14-year relief veteran. However, Lopez hasn't quite been himself in 2016 so far, as lefties were 4-of-8 with a double against him going into the game.
