Dodgers honored for Vin's return video

Magic, Kimmel announced legendary broadcaster would be back in 2016

A special moment this summer at Dodger Stadium has earned the Dodgers an Esurance MLB Award.

The Dodgers took home the first award of the day on Friday when it was revealed on social media that they were the recipient of this year's Best Video Board Moment Award.

It stems from an Aug. 28 game against the Cubs, when Dodgers partner Magic Johnson and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel delivered the news that beloved Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully would be returning in 2016 for his 67th season.

The Mariners (Washington native Evelyn Jones celebrating her 108th birthday at Safeco Field) and Cubs (using Wrigley Field's new video board for a moving tribute to the late broadcasting legend Harry Caray) were the other finalists.

As a winner, the Dodgers will receive a Greatness in Baseball Yearly (GIBBY) trophy.

The Dodgers and Scully were also recognized in a second award, as the Hall of Fame broadcaster won Best Call, TV honors for his coverage of a rare balk-off win in June.

The Esurance MLB Awards annually honor Major League Baseball's greatest achievements as part of an industry-wide balloting process that includes five components, each of which accounts for 20 percent of the overall vote: media, front-office personnel, retired MLB players, fans at and Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) voters.

Individual awards went to the Best Major Leaguer, in addition to the winners in the following categories: Best Everyday Player, Starting Pitcher, Rookie, Defensive Player, Breakout Player, Bounceback Player, Social Media Personality and Postseason Performer.

Winners were also recognized for the year's Best Offensive Play, Defensive Play, Moment, Single-Game Performance, Social Media Post, Celebrity Fan, Fan Catch, Interview, TV Call, Radio Call, Player-Fan Interaction and Trending Topic.
