PHOENIX -- Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu, recovering slowly from left shoulder surgery, threw off a mound Monday for the first time since Feb. 26.
Ryu originally hoped to be ready by Opening Day, but his rehab was slowed by discomfort he felt after a bullpen session late last month. He made 20 pitches on Monday at moderate velocity, but he said afterward that he felt fine and considered it a positive step.
"It's been a while since I've been on a mound. But overall, I felt good," said Ryu. "It's part of the process of getting better, slowly but surely. It's the next step."

Ryu said he didn't know when he would throw off a mound again, but he said he wasn't concerned about the discomfort returning when he cools down after the workout.
