Kershaw swipes second for first stolen base

ST. LOUIS -- Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw has done many things since making his Major League debut in the 2008, but his stolen base Sunday was a first.

Kershaw stole second base in the fourth inning against the Cardinals, the first theft of his career.

After reaching on a fielder's choice, Kershaw took off for second on a 1-1 pitch to Dee Gordon. The pitch went into the dirt and there was no throw to second base. He advanced to third on Gordon's single but was stranded when Adrian Gonzalez flied out with the bases loaded to end the inning.

"That's not something we want to do a lot of ... unless they're just going to give it to us," manager Don Mattingly said during an in-game interview on ESPN.

The lefty never stole a base in his Minor League career, either, after joining the Dodgers organization in 2006.
