Urias goes five scoreless for Rancho Cucamonga
Young left-hander fans five, allows one hit in longest outing of season
Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias turned in his longest outing of the season Wednesday night, tossing five innings of one-hit ball en route to his first win of the year.
Urias, the Dodgers' No. 3 prospect, struck out five and didn't walk a batter in five scoreless innings of work as Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga beat Inland Empire, 3-1. The 17-year-old lefty is the youngest player in the California League, and if he's trying to prove that he belongs with his older teammates, Wednesday was a good step toward doing so.
Urias is 1-1 with a 4.11 ERA, 34 strikeouts and 15 walks in nine games, including seven starts, this season. Opponents are hitting just .200 against him in 30 2/3 innings.
Ranked No. 54 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, Urias broke into the professional ranks last season as a 16-year-old in the Midwest League.
Urias went 2-0 with a 2.48 ERA in 18 starts for Class A Great Lakes last year, striking out 67 batters and walking only 16 while posting a 1.10 WHIP in 54 1/3 innings.
