Dodgers recall Santana, option Stewart

DENVER -- The Dodgers recalled right-hander Dennis Santana from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday to provide bullpen length after two taxing wins at Coors Field.

To make room, right-hander Brock Stewart was optioned to Oklahoma City.

Five-inning starts from Kenta Maeda and Walker Buehler in the first two games of the series against Colorado left eight innings for the bullpen to finish, with Julio Urias starting Sunday night.

Manager Dave Roberts made 11 pitching changes to wrap up the two wins. Relievers Pedro Baez, Yimi Garcia and Dylan Floro pitched in both games and are likely unavailable for the series finale.

Santana, the club's No. 7 prospect per MLB Pipeline, was first promoted to the Major Leagues last summer and pitched one game in relief at Coors Field, but suffered a strained right rotator cuff and was scratched just before a scheduled start, missing the last three months of the season.

Santana struck out 14 with six walks and an 8.31 ERA in 8 2/3 innings in Spring Training. He was optioned March 11 and had yet to pitch for Oklahoma City this month. Santana said his last game action was March 28, but he threw a simulated game Tuesday and a bullpen session Thursday.

Stewart had an 18.00 ERA with two homers allowed in four innings over three games.
