The Dodgers have come to terms on a deal with second-round Draft pick Mitchell White, according to MLB.com's Jim Callis.
White, a right-handed pitcher from Santa Clara University, signed for $590,800. His Draft slot, No. 65 overall, was valued at $993,800.
White sat out his freshman season at Santa Clara after undergoing Tommy John surgery, then returned as a reliever in 2015. He joined the rotation as a sophomore this spring and went 3-6 with a 3.72 ERA through 15 starts (92 innings) with 118 strikeouts and 27 walks. The 21-year-old touts a fastball that touches the mid-90s.
"He has a plus slider, he's big, physical and his arm has really recovered," Dodgers scouting director Billy Gasparino said last week. "We feel like he's trending up and has a good chance to be a major rotation starter."
White is the Dodgers' highest Draft selection to sign so far, following third-rounder Dustin May and fourth-rounder D.J. Peters. On Wednesday the club also agreed to a deal with sixth-round pick Errol Robinson. Robinson, a shortstop from Mississippi, was signed for slightly above slot value at $250,000, per Callis.
