SAN FRANCISCO -- The Dodgers won their second challenge in as many days in the second inning of Thursday's 12-6 loss to the Giants, resulting in an additional Dodgers run.
Replays showed that Giants second baseman Joe Panik came off the bag early after taking a throw from shortstop Brandon Crawford on what originally was called an inning-ending double-play grounder by Alex Wood with the bases loaded.
Instead, with baserunner Austin Barnes safe, a run scored on the 6-4-3 fielder's choice, giving the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. This is the first year that the so-called "neighborhood play" is reviewable.
"That was Chris [Woodward, third-base coach] and Bob [Geren, bench coach] letting me know," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. "We didn't think he stayed on the base. Now with the neighborhood play, it's forcing infielders to follow through and have the baseball and complete the play, and those guys were right on top of it."
The Dodgers won their first review of the year Wednesday night in San Diego when replays showed second baseman Chase Utley tagged the bag with the ball after initially dropping it on a force play.
