Pipeline Preview: Alvarez making Double-A debut

July 23rd, 2017

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: (Nationals' No. 17), Harrisburg vs. Binghamton (1:30 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Read put together one of his best games this season on Saturday as he went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs in a win over Harrisburg. The 23-year-old hit his 10th homer of the year, a career high, in the game and will look to stay hot on Sunday.

Pitcher to watch: Yadier Alvarez (Dodgers' No. 1), Tulsa vs. Northwest Arkansas (3:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Alvarez, the No. 38 overall prospect, will make his Double-A debut after posting a 5.31 ERA through 59 1/3 innings with Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga. Alvarez, who gave up two earned runs in four innings in his last start, has an upper-90s fastball and an impressive array of secondary pitches but has also struggled with command and consistency throughout the season.

Duel of the Day: Brent Honeywell (Rays' No. 2) vs. (Phillies' No. 23), Durham vs. Lehigh Valley (5:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Honeywell, the No. 22 overall prospect, takes the mound with an 11-inning scoreless streak intact. The 22-year-old righty hasn't allowed a run in either of his past two starts, during which he's struck out 14 and yielded just six hits.

Lively has also thrown the ball well lately, giving up just two earned runs over his past four starts (25 innings) with the IronPigs. However, that span is not consecutive, as Lively was called up to the Phillies during that stretch and went 1-4 with a 3.80 ERA through seven starts. In 11 Triple-A outings this season, Lively is 7-1 with a 2.27 ERA.
