LOS ANGELES -- Yasiel Puig hit a go-ahead two-run homer -- his longest and hardest-hit of the Statcast™ era (since 2015) -- to lead the Dodgers to a 7-2 win Thursday night over the Marlins, who lost their fourth in a row.
Puig's home run off Marlins starter Edinson Volquez had a projected distance of 442 feet and an exit velocity of 111.2 mph, and it gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead in the second inning.
"I was trying to go inside, and the ball just ran into the middle," said Volquez, who allowed five runs in six innings and fell to 0-6. "I think we lost the game right there. The game was 1-1, and Puig hit a homer to score two more runs, and that was it."

Despite hitting into three double plays in the first four innings, the Dodgers provided five runs for Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-5), who rebounded from a whacking at Colorado last week to get the win, despite allowing solo home runs to Justin Bour and Christian Yelich.
"Ryu's velocity was better than we've seen," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "Even the pitch to Yelich. To his credit, he got on top of it. To sit at 90 mph, touch 92, that was a good thing."

Ryu -- who doubled after Puig's two-run blast and scored a run -- was removed after taking a comebacker off the foot with one out in the sixth. Earlier in the game, he was hit on the right forearm by a pitch from Volquez, his former Dodgers teammate. Ryu took a picture of the welt on his arm, and sent it to Volquez after the game.
"I said sorry, and he sent me a picture and said he would be OK," Volquez said. "Everything is good with him."
Kenley Jansen got the last four outs for his eighth save -- pitching an immaculate inning in the ninth -- and also had an infield single in the eighth, the second hit of his career and first since Aug. 31, 2010.

Jansen has four four-out saves this year, and said his multi-inning success in last year's postseason has given him the confidence to attempt it more often this season.
"Ain't going to lie, that playoff made me grow even more," Jansen said. "I feed off that. Just get better every day and become a better pitcher, and help my team win ballgames and we all have that one goal."

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Dodgers' damage control: The Marlins opened the top of the second with consecutive extra-base hits by Giancarlo Stanton, Bour and J.T. Realmuto that had exit velocities of 113.9, 104.5 and 105.4 mph, respectively. But they scored just one run, as the inning was minimized because Stanton was thrown out by catcher Yasmani Grandal trying to advance from second to third on a pitch in the dirt prior to Bour's homer.
"It's been like that every start, giving up home runs and hard-hit balls," Ryu said through an interpreter. "I see that as part of the game. I know I shouldn't be giving them up, and overall, it's something I don't want to happen. We got the lead early in the game, and I knew what I had to work with."

Unhittable Hatcher: Chris Hatcher took over for Ryu with one out in the sixth and runners on the corners, striking out Realmuto and pinch-hitter Derek Dietrich. Hatcher has fanned the last five batters he's faced.
"When Hatcher is on, the bullpen will change tremendously," Jansen said.

TURNER EXITS AFTER SEVENTH
Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner left the game after suffering a right hamstring injury while rounding third base in the bottom of the seventh. He will undergo tests on Friday.
"Hopefully tomorrow all the results come back positive, and we don't miss him that long," Jansen said.

Marlins: Justin Nicolino starts for the Marlins on Friday night in the second of a four-game series at Dodger Stadium at 10:10 p.m. ET. The left-hander is looking for another solid start against the Dodgers, having pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings on April 27, 2016, in his only other start at Chavez Ravine.
Dodgers: Alex Wood starts the 7:10 p.m. PT game Friday after winning National League Player of the Week for striking out 21 batters in 11 scoreless innings over two winning starts last week. He is 4-3 with a 3.42 ERA against the Marlins in 11 career games (eight starts), but hasn't faced them since 2015, while with the Braves.
