GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Yasiel Puig homered and made a diving catch in right field as the Dodgers defeated the Rockies, 7-3, on Wednesday at Camelback Ranch.
Puig's homer came with one out in the fourth against Rockies starter Chad Bettis, who gave up two runs and five hits in four innings. In the top of the fifth with the score tied at two, Puig dove to rob Charlie Blackmon of possible extra bases -- and an RBI -- on a line drive.
Dodgers starter Zach Lee held the Rockies to a run and three hits in three innings. Reserve Los Angeles catcher Shawn Zarraga knocked two hits to bring his spring average to .533. Touted Dodgers prospect Julio Urias gave up two hits and a run in two innings, earning the win.
It was the second start for Bettis, who threw three perfect innings against the Indians in his spring debut.
"I felt good, strong, healthy, but there are some minor details I have to work on," Bettis said. "One thing for me was my hips felt like they were opening up a little bit fast, which led into some arm-side misses -- more than I would like, especially when they're not competitive.
"I felt better out of the stretch than I did out of my windup today. It wasn't that I was uncomfortable, but there are things I need to work on."
Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lift his spring batting average to .593. He also has a .926 slugging percentage and a .586 on-base percentage.
Up next for the Rockies: Right-handed prospect Jeff Hoffman, reassigned to Minor League camp last week, has been called back to face the Angels at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick on Thursday at 1:10 p.m. MT. Hoffman struck out two in two scoreless innings against the Reds in his only Cactus League appearance. Expected rotation member Jon Gray will pitch, while David Hale, who has missed the first half of the spring schedule with a right hamstring injury, will make his debut.
Up next for the Dodgers:Alex Wood, who skipped his last start with slight forearm stiffness, returns to game action against the Royals and Kris Medlen on Thursday at 1:05 p.m. PT. Also expected to return is outfielder Carl Crawford, who missed Wednesday's game with back soreness and hasn't played since Saturday. Promising young starter Ross Stripling is also expected to pitch for the Dodgers.
