Grandal exits game after fouling ball off foot

X-rays negative on Dodgers catcher after loss to Padres

May 22nd, 2016

SAN DIEGO -- X-rays were negative on the right foot of Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal, who left Saturday night's 11-inning, 3-2 loss to San Diego in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Grandal fouled a pitch off the foot in front of the ankle in the seventh inning and the swelling was pronounced. He stayed in the game with the injury, but in the top of the 10th inning, Grandal bounced into a forceout and beat out the double-play relay throw to first base.
Returning to the dugout after that inning, he said he lost feeling in the foot. A.J. Ellis took over behind the plate for Grandal, leaving the Dodgers with Carl Crawford as their only remaining position player on the bench.
"It looks worse than it is," said Grandal.
Manager Dave Roberts, before knowing the results of the x-rays, said he was uncertain if the club would recall catcher Austin Barnes as a fifth position player. The Dodgers have been carrying an extra reliever this week because of the shaky performance of the bullpen.
