ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have placed infielder on the disabled list with tightness and soreness in his left hip. To replace him, the Rangers have called up utility player from Double-A Frisco.
Alvarez gets his first big league call, though it may be a short stay, as the Rangers are hoping to get back in the lineup Friday in Houston.
The Rangers acquired Alvarez from the Phillies in the last week of Spring Training. He has played in 28 games for Double-A Frisco, hitting .196 with a .290 on-base percentage, 13 runs scored and five stolen bases. His career Minor League batting average is .277, with a .354 on-base percentage and .420 slugging percentage.
He was playing the outfield at Frisco, but has played second base, shortstop and third in the Minors.
Robinson has been bothered by the hip for the past several days and was hitting .175 in 26 games for the Rangers.
