BALTIMORE -- Yankees infielder Dustin Ackley underwent successful surgery Friday morning to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Ackley was injured vs.Tampa Bay on Sunday, when he dove back to first base on a pickoff attempt.
Team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad performed the operation at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
"Surgery went well," manager Joe Girardi said. "Obviously he's not going to be available to us this year. But the good thing is that he got everything cleaned up ... and hopefully he'll be back in Spring Training next year."
Ackley, 28, was batting .148/.243/.148 this season with no homers and four RBIs in 28 games with the Yankees.
