Adrianza's leg injury may clear way for Uggla

PHILADELPHIA -- Infielder Ehire Adrianza re-injured his right hamstring on Thursday during the Giants' 2-1 loss to the Philllies and may have to return to the disabled list, manager Bruce Bochy said.

Bochy cited no probable replacement for Adrianza on the active roster. But if the Giants need to shelve Adrianza, who was on the disabled list June 23-July 10, an opening would be created for veteran Dan Uggla, whom San Francisco signed to a Minor League contract on Monday.

Uggla could fill in at second base, where the Giants have virtually no depth. Adrianza started at second on Thursday. Rookie Joe Panik is still hobbling on a sprained right ankle. Joaquin Arias has been limited to reserve duty, due largely to his .187 batting average, and Marco Scutaro is still working his way back from various ailments.

Adrianza, who injured himself while running the bases after lining a fifth-inning RBI single, is batting .325 (13-for-40) while hitting safely in 11 of his last 12 games.
