KANSAS CITY -- Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer was voted the team's Les Milgram player of the year for 2016, while left-hander Danny Duffy was voted the Bruce Rice pitcher of the year, and Jarrod Dyson received the Joe Burke special achievement award.
Voting is done by the Kansas City chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
Hosmer, 27, set career highs in home runs (25) and RBIs (104). Hosmer also became the second player in franchise history to win Most Valuable Player honors at the All-Star Game presented by MasterCard -- Bo Jackson did the same in 1989 -- with a home run and two RBIs.
Hosmer's 34 go-ahead RBIs were second most in the American League behind Jose Pujols (35).
Duffy, 28, had his breakout season in 2016, posting career highs in wins (12), starts (26), innings (179 2/3) and strikeouts (188). He also led Royals starters with a 3.51 ERA.

Duffy, who recently signed a five-year $65 million contract extension, set a club record for strikeouts in a game with 16 against the Rays on Aug. 1. His 188 season strikeouts were the most ever by a Royals left-hander.
Dyson, who was traded this offseason to the Mariners for pitcher Nathan Karns, set career highs in hits (83), doubles (14) triples (eight) and average (.278). His 30 stolen bases were tied for second in the league. And he recorded 11 outfield assists.
