Hosmer safe at first after Blue Jays lose challenge
TORONTO -- The Royals' Eric Hosmer was ruled safe at first, and that call would stand after Blue Jays manager John Gibbons issued a challenge in the top of the sixth inning of an 11-1 game on Saturday afternoon at Rogers Centre.
With no runners on and one out, Hosmer sent a weak grounder toward Toronto pitcher Marcus Stroman, who fielded the ball and fired to first a second too late. Gibbons requested the umpires take another look.
After a 1-minute, 41-second review, the call on the field would stand.
The Blue Jays won the game, 12-2.
