Eric Hosmer is playing some of the best baseball of his life right now, and it's coming at the best time -- with his Royals fighting for a postseason spot and at the tail end of a contract year.
Hosmer may have enjoyed the best week of his career last week, in the midst of what's become a career year. He was awarded for his success Monday, earning American League Player of the Week honors for Sept. 4-10.
The sweet-swinging first baseman went 14-for-26 (.538) over the past seven days while posting an incredible 1.470 OPS to help Kansas City go 4-3 during the week. Hosmer added two home runs and had multi-RBI games twice.

Hosmer finished the week recording hits in his final eight at-bats and reaching base in nine consecutive plate appearances over three games against the Twins. For the season, he's hitting .328/.393/.517 to go along with 24 home runs and 85 RBIs.
The AL Player of the Week Award is the first of Hosmer's career, and the first for a Royals player since Kendrys Morales won last September.
