FORT MYERS, Fla. -- While warming up in the bullpen, Erick Fedde admitted to being a little nervous. It was only a Grapefruit League game at the end of February, but this was his first time facing Major League hitters.
And he was impressive in his spring debut, tossing a pair of scoreless innings with two strikeouts during the Nationals' 5-2 loss to the Twins on Sunday.

"It's up there as one of my favorite baseball moments for sure," said Fedde, the Nats' No.2 prospect as rated by MLBPipeline.com and No. 60 overall. "I mean, it was cool. I know it was only Spring Training, but I had some butterflies and stuff you still chase in the games. It was up there for sure, in the top three moments."
Fedde is in his second year after Tommy John surgery and he says his arm finally feels 100 percent. He made strides last season and is rising up the prospect rankings as he continues to build arm strength following the surgery.

It is possible that if Fedde continues to impress the Nationals this spring, he could find his way to the Majors at some point this season, especially considering the Nationals' thin rotation depth.
"We have to determine if we think he thinks he's ready," manager Dusty Baker said. "I can't say that he'll be ready later in the year because who knows. We don't know. He could be ready now.
"So the main thing is we're going to give him the ball. We're going to get a good look-see at him and determine what we think he's best suited for and where and when."
