LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers acquired infielder Erick Mejia from the Seattle Mariners for right-handed pitcher Joe Wieland on Tuesday.
Other than four games last season at Triple-A, Mejia, 21, hasn't played above Class A, but at three Class A and Rookie-level stops last season, he was 20-for-21 in stolen-base attempts. He was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2012 and his primary position is shortstop, although he also has seen significant time at second base.

A switch-hitter, Mejia has a .273 career batting average and 49 steals in 133 games.
Wieland, who turns 26 this month, spent most of the 2015 season at Triple-A, making two starts for the Dodgers and going 0-1 with an 8.31 ERA. He came to the Dodgers last winter from San Diego in the Matt Kemp trade and was shuffled down the starting-pitcher depth chart with the recent acquisitions of Scott Kazmir, Kenta Maeda and Frankie Montas.
