Espinosa gets cortisone shot, baseball activities next

WASHINGTON -- Manager Davey Johnson said Thursday that second baseman Danny Espinosa had a cortisone shot in his fractured right wrist and will resume baseball activities in four or five days.

Espinosa saw a hand specialist in Baltimore on Wednesday and had MRIs on his wrist and left shoulder. Johnson did not go into much detail about the visit, but he said that the results were expected. Espinosa was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday.

The Nationals manager also said that the MRI on Espinosa's shoulder "revealed a little injury into his rotator cuff." Espinosa played through a torn left rotator cuff for more than a month at the end of last season, but he has said this year that it is not bothering him.

Espinosa also has a bone chip in his wrist stemming from a hit-by-pitch against the Braves on April 14. The 26-year-old repeatedly tried to play through the pain but is hitting just .158 (25-for-158) in 44 games this season.

Espinosa cleaned out his locker in the Nationals' clubhouse before Tuesday's game against the Mets.
