Evans garners first career start at DH

HOUSTON -- Wednesday's game marked the first time in Nick Evans' Major League career that he served as a designated hitter.

Evans has been a DH before in the Minor Leagues, but never in the Majors.

Manager Kirk Gibson told Evans on Tuesday night that he may be taking over as the DH with the club in Houston.

"Anytime you can get in the lineup is fun," Evans said. "I'll take every at-bat I can get."

In eight at-bats this season, Evans' only hit was a home run. He'll try to take his previous experiences as a DH to get hit No. 2.

"It's definitely different because you're not on defense, so you've got to make sure you're really following the game to make sure you still feeling like you're a part of what's going on," Evans said.
