Deadline nearing to vote Mariners into All-Star Game

SEATTLE -- Major League Baseball released its latest round of American League fan voting for the 2013 All-Star Game on Monday, and no Mariners were among the leaders at any of the positions.

The top five vote-getters at each position and top 15 outfielders were announced for the AL, with National League results coming on Tuesday. Teams will be announced this Saturday for the 84th All-Star Game, which will be played Tuesday, July 16, at Citi Field in New York.

The Mariners haven't had a position player in the All-Star Game since 2010, the last of Ichiro Suzuki's 10 consecutive appearances in the Midsummer Classic. Seattle sent three pitchers in 2011 -- Felix Hernandez, Michael Pineda and Brandon League -- and Hernandez was the team's lone representative the past two years.

Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma figure to be prime contenders to be selected as pitchers this year, but the Mariners position players didn't receive much consideration from fans.

Outfielder Raul Ibanez, third baseman Kyle Seager and designated hitter Kendrys Morales have put up the best first-half totals for the Mariners, but none cracked the leading vote-getters at their positions.

The AL ballot leaders released Monday were Chris Davis of the Orioles at first base, Robinson Cano of the Yankees at second base, J.J. Hardy of the Orioles at shortstop, Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers at third base, Joe Mauer of the Twins at catcher, David Ortiz of the Red Sox at designated hitter and Mike Trout of the Angels, Adam Jones of the Orioles and Jose Bautista of the Blue Jays in the outfield.

Fans can still cast their votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- online or via a mobile device -- using the 2013 All-Star Game MLB.com Ballot until Thursday, July 4, at 8:59 p.m. PT.

Fans may submit 25 online ballots during the voting period but can also earn a one-time bonus of 10 additional online ballots. To access these additional online ballots, fans must be logged into an MLB.com account when submitting any online ballot. Fans can also once again participate in the Home Run Derby Fan Poll. Fans will have the opportunity to select three players in each league whom they would most like to see participate in the Home Run Derby. The 2013 Home Run Derby -- part of Gatorade All-Star Workout Day -- will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN HD, ESPN Deportes and ESPN Radio in the United States beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, July 15.

Though originally scheduled for July 7, the 2013 rosters will now be unveiled Saturday, July 6, at 3:30 p.m. PT on the 2013 MLB All-Star Game Selection Show presented by Taco Bell. The show will be televised nationally on FOX.

And the voting doesn't end there. The final phase of All-Star Game voting will again have fans participating in the official voting for the Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet. During the Midsummer Classic, fans will vote exclusively online at MLB.com via the 2013 All-Star Game MLB.com MVP Vote, and their voice will represent 20 percent of the official vote determining the recipient of the Arch Ward Trophy.
