Feeling better, Gomez targets return vs. Cubs

MILWAUKEE -- Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez said his left shoulder felt better Tuesday and he will hit on Wednesday, three days after he sprained his shoulder making a catch in center field against the Braves.

Gomez saw team physician Dr. William Raasch on Monday, but did not undergo an MRI exam. He said he has full range of motion.

"It doesn't hurt," Gomez said. "The big test will be tomorrow. I'm going to hit tomorrow. Today, I want to be available for baserunning and defense."

Gomez collided with the center-field wall Sunday while making an acrobatic catch on an Andrelton Simmons fly ball. The center fielder fell awkwardly back, pinning his left arm against the wall.

Gomez said his shoulder popped out and back in, but that he will not change his aggressive style of play in center field.

"I feel really good today. It's really sore, but I'm going to be ready," said Gomez, noting if he feels good Wednesday, he will play against the Cubs. "Everybody can relax because it's not a dangerous injury."

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke was not quite as optimistic about Gomez's return, saying he likely will miss the entire series against Chicago at Miller Park. But he did say he hopes his center fielder will be back for the team's series in Pittsburgh starting Friday.

"We'll see where he is," Roenicke said. "I'm real pleased, he's real pleased. I saw him moving around and getting some exercise. It'll be nice if he's not out for too long."
