The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that five Minor League players have been suspended following their violations of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Arizona Diamondbacks Minor League right-handed pitcher Jorge Despaigne, who is currently on the roster of the rookie-level Dominican Summer League D-backs, has received a 72-game suspension without pay after testing positive for metabolites of Stanozolol, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Program.
New York Yankees Minor League outfielder Edel Luaces, who is currently on the roster of the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Yankees, has received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Amphetamine, a stimulant in violation of the Program.
Yankees Minor League outfielder Erick Mendez, who is currently on the roster of the rookie-level Pulaski Yankees of the Appalachian League, has receieved a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Propylhexedrine, a stimulant in violation of the Program.
Toronto Blue Jays Minor League catcher Cameron O'Brien, who is currently on the roster of the rookie-level Bluefield Blue Jays of the Appalachian League, has received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Amphetamine, a stimulant in violation of the program.
Baltimore Orioles Minor League catcher Christopher O'Brien, who is currently on the roster of the Double-A Bowie Baysox of the Eastern League, has received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Amphetamine, a stimulant in violation of the Program.
The suspensions of all five players are effective at the start of their respective 2017 seasons.
