June 7th, 2021

The Greeneville Flyboys used a five-run third inning, and thwarted a late rally, to hand the Bluefield Ridge Runners their first loss of the season, 10-6, on Sunday in a seven-inning contest at Bowen Field.

Greeneville (2-2) received a three-hit performance from designated hitter Eddie Micheletti as the George Washington product was responsible for plating a pair of runs for the Flyboys. Jonathan Hogart, Chris Williams, and Trevor Austin each added a pair of hits on the night for Greeneville.

The Flyboys plated a pair of runs in the top of the first inning as Zeddric Burnham opened the contest with a double into left field. Burnham scored on a throwing error by Bluefield’s Brayden Jobert to make it 1-0. Derek Tenney would later score on a sacrifice fly to right field by Hogart, making it 2-0.

Bluefield’s offense would be held in check through the opening two frames as Greeneville starter Austin Troesser scattered a pair of hits and recorded four strikeouts in two innings of work for the Flyboys.

Greeneville added to its lead by scoring five runs in the top of the third inning to extend the lead to 7-0. The Flyboys batted around in the inning as Hogart, Micheletti, and Grant Lashure each delivered run-scoring hits as ten batters stepped up to the plate for Greeneville.

The Ridge Runners would score a single run in the third and fourth inning against Greeneville reliever Cal Lambert. Greeneville added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning as Williams and Austin plated runners with back-to-back hits to make it 10-2.

Bluefield looked to rally for a fourth straight game as the Ridge Runners loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning following a run-scoring single from Ben Harris to make it 10-3. Braden Nett entered the game out of the bullpen for Greeneville and recorded a strikeout to leave the bases loaded. Bluefield added three more runs in the seventh inning to trim the deficit to 10-6 before Ryan Franklin closed the door for the Flyboys to secure the victory.
