Football star Martarano drafted by Phils in 13th

PHILADELPHIA -- Two-sport star Joey Martarano has options.

A native of Fruitland, Idaho, Martarano has committed to play linebacker on the blue turf of Boise State's football field, but he was also selected at No. 391 overall in the 13th round by the Phillies in the First-Year Player Draft on Saturday.

Martarano reportedly told coach Chris Petersen recently that he intends to play football for the Broncos. However, the school does not have a baseball team, so the Phillies may be able to work out a deal that allows Martarano, who played third base in high school, to play college football and professional baseball.

"Just got drafted to the phillies!" Martarano tweeted Saturday afternoon. "Im still playing football but i can show up and play baseball whenever i want for 100k! #pumped"

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, Martarano has lots of power, which allows him to succeed on the diamond and gridiron. If Martarano does choose to play baseball professionally, he will likely move to the outfield or first base.
