For rookie reliever Brewer, a doubly special night

LOS ANGELES -- When he tossed 1 2/3 innings of relief Monday night, D-backs right-hander Charles Brewer became the first player to be born in the state of Arizona to make his Major League debut with the D-backs.

"I can't think of anything else in my life that I would take pride in more than that," Brewer said. "Just thinking about all the kids in Arizona right now in Little League and playing travel ball and high school ball, I was just another one of those kids and those kids can do the same thing. Hopefully that will be an inspiration to them."

Brewer played collegiately at UCLA, so he was excited to be able to make his big league debut at Dodger Stadium.

"Besides being back in Phoenix in my hometown, being in LA for my debut was pretty awesome," he said. "The atmosphere of the stadium was crazy and my family was here, so it was awesome."

Brewer almost got his career off to a rocky start when his first pitch was laced to right field by Tim Federowicz.

Outfielder Gerardo Parra, however, made a leaping catch as he crashed into the right-field wall to rob Federowicz of an extra-base hit.

"I got scared there for a second, I really did," Brewer said. "I was like, 'This can't happen on my first pitch, c'mon.' But how about G's play out there? That was ridiculous. That was an unbelievable play by him."
