Former broadcaster Blattner up for Frick Award

DETROIT -- Buddy Blattner, one of the original Royals broadcasters, is among the 2015 nominees for the Ford C. Frick Award, which is open to fans' online voting as part of the election process.

The Frick Award winner is honored at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum's annual induction ceremonies at Cooperstown, N.Y.

Blattner launched the Royals' broadcasts along with Denny Matthews, the 2007 Frick recipient, and was on the air through 1975 and died in 2009.

Also among the nominees are Kansas City A's broadcasters Merle Harmon (1955-61) and Monte Moore (1962-67).

This year's candidates are from the "Living Room Era" spanning the 1950s through the mid-1980s. Fans will name three of the final 10 candidates with their votes on Facebook through Sept. 30.

The winner will be selected by a committee of 20 comprised of 16 former winners -- including Matthews and four historians or columnists.
