Former Mariners stars return for softball event

Martinez, Wilson, Buhner among host of celebrities to appear Saturday

SEATTLE -- Former Mariners stars Edgar Martinez, Dan Wilson and Jay Buhner will be among a host of celebrities taking part Saturday in the first All-Star Softball Classic for Homeless Youth at Safeco Field.

The event is sponsored by the United Way and is open to the public, with tickets at $10 for general admission and $125 for VIP seats that include a pre-event meet-and-greet with the participants.

Gates open at 1:30 p.m., with the game at 3 p.m. and a concert by the Young Evils to follow.

Wilson and Buhner are the opposing captains in the game, with Martinez serving as one of the coaches. All three are members of the Mariners Hall of Fame.

Other celebrities taking part include Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate, former Sonics Gary Payton, Detlef Schrempf and Slick Watts, former Mariner Julio Cruz, Sounders midfielder Steve Zakuani, Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament, author Sherman Alexie and numerous business leaders in the community.
