Former MLB outfielder O. Nixon arrested

Former Major League outfielder Otis Nixon has been arrested on drug charges in Canton, Ga., The Associated Press reported on Monday.

Nixon, who last played in 1999, was pulled over just after midnight on Saturday when another driver called police to report his Dodge Ram truck weaving across the road, according to a report from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.

The report stated that deputies found a pipe to smoke crack cocaine in the 54-year-old's pocket, and another in the car, as well as several suspected crack rocks. Field sobriety tests determined that Nixon was not under the influence of crack cocaine or alcohol.

As of Monday afternoon, Nixon remained in jail on $11,880 bond, according to The AP.

Nixon was the third overall pick of the 1979 First-Year Player Draft by the Yankees and debuted in the Majors with New York in 1983. He played for nine teams -- most prominently the Braves, Indians and Expos -- over 17 big league seasons, hitting .270 with 620 stolen bases, including five seasons of 50 or more.
