GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor launched a two-run home run, helping ignite a Cleveland comeback en route to a 10-3 Cactus League victory over the Brewers on Sunday afternoon at Goodyear Ballpark.
Lindor -- the runner-up for the American League's Rookie of the Year Award last season -- capped off a four-run outburst for the Tribe in the fifth inning with his second long ball of Spring Training. The rally helped overcome a two-homer day by Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett.
Facing Milwaukee starter Taylor Jungmann, the Indians received a leadoff home run by Juan Uribe to begin the fifth-inning push. Cleveland then loaded the bases for Jose Ramirez, whose double-play groundout plated another run for the Indians. That set things up for Lindor, who pulled a pitch from Jungmann to deep right field for a home run, giving the Indians a 4-2 advantage.
"We kept after it," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "We had the double play in-between there, and that could've snuffed it out. But we kept the line moving and did some good things. I don't care what time of year it is, you're looking for good things. When you start getting down to the last week [of Spring Training], you want to see guys bearing down, and they're doing a good job."
Jungmann -- Milwaukee's projected No. 2 starter -- was charged with four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings, during which he issued four walks and struck out one.
Indians right-hander Cody Anderson, who is up against Josh Tomlin for the lone vacancy in the starting staff, allowed three runs on six hits in his six innings of work. Anderson struck out seven and walked none, but he surrendered a pair of home runs to Gennett. The Brewers second baseman belted a two-run shot in the third inning and later added a leadoff blast in the sixth.
"He was very good," Francona said of Anderson. "He left a changeup up a little bit for the two-run home run and then had the solo, but power to his fastball. Down in the zone. He got some swing and miss with it. Threw some really good changeups. Really, that was impressive."
Cleveland padded its lead in the sixth inning against Milwaukee reliever Tyler Thornburg, who is expected to be in the Opening Day bullpen. Jason Kipnis and Ramirez connected for consecutive run- scoring singles in the inning to put the Brewers behind, 6-3. Michael Martinez added a run-scoring fielder's choice for the Tribe in the seventh.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Indians outfielder Collin Cowgill added a three-run home run off Brewer right-hander Ariel Pena. Cowgill, who is in the mix for one of Cleveland's outfield jobs, performs better against lefties, so the blast was encouraging for the Tribe.
"We're starting to see better swings," Francona said. "It's been the last four or five days where he's been more himself. I don't know if he's always going to hit homers, but he's been a lot more himself. You get a couple hits and you can relax a little bit."
Jungmann described his outing with a phrase he has uttered several times this spring: "Out of whack."
"I was getting outs early, but it never really felt good like it should," Jungmann said. "I feel healthy. My arm feels good. We'll build off of that.
"Even the outings where I threw well, I still felt out of whack. Maybe you can't see it in my mechanics, but it's something I can feel. When you're really comfortable and throwing well, you can really feel it coming out of your hand. I still haven't got that feeling yet. We're still working towards that."
Jungmann has one spring start remaining. His regular season debut is scheduled for April 8 against the Astros at Miller Park.
Up next for Brewers: The Brewers return to Goodyear Ballpark for the second straight day Monday, but after facing the Indians under the sunshine on Sunday, it will be a night game against the rival Reds. Chase Anderson is scheduled for his final Arizona start in the 9:05 p.m. CT contest, which will be broadcast on Gameday Audio.
Up next for Indians: Right-hander Danny Salazar, who projects to be the Tribe's No. 3 starter this season, is scheduled to take the mound on Monday, when the Indians head to HoHoKam Park to face the A's in a 4:05 p.m. ET Cactus League clash. Relievers Zach McAllister, Bryan Shaw and Joba Chamberlain are also slated to pitch. The game will be available on Gameday Audio.
