Francona wishes Chen a happy retirement

CHICAGO -- Indians manager Terry Francona reacted Tuesday to the news that pitcher Bruce Chen, whom the Indians designated for assignment on Saturday, was retiring after 17 seasons in the Major Leagues.

"I had a feeling that's what Bruce was gonna do," Francona said. "He's at a point in his life where he earned the right to be happy with whatever choice he made. He's probably at peace with a lot of things. He gave it a good shot this year. He went to Triple-A, and I never seen a guy with that much experience enjoy Triple-A so much, the people, new experiences.

"He affected so many people in a positive way in his little time here. We're fortunate to have had him."
