Free-agent outfielder Delmon Young was arrested Sunday night in Miami and charged with battery after he allegedly choked and threatened a valet attendant, according to multiple reports.
A police report said that Young grabbed the attendant by the neck and began to choke him after the attendant did not allow Young to enter a nightclub at the Viceroy Hotel. Young also directed racial slurs towards the attendant and law enforcement, according to the police report.
Young, who lives at the Viceroy Hotel, was arrested at his condominium shortly after the alleged incident with the valet attendant. Police said Young "was unsteady on his feet and spoke with slurred speech" when they arrived at his residence.
Young, 30, has played for the Rays, Twins, Tigers, Phillies and Orioles over a 10-year big league career. He was released by the O's in July.
In 2012, Young was arrested outside a New York City hotel after he allegedly pushed a man to the ground and yelled an anti-Semitic slur at the victim. Young, who was playing for the Tigers at the time, received a seven-game suspension by Major League Baseball. He later pled guilty to harassment and was sentenced to 10 hours of community service
