Gabriel Quintana homered and drove in all six runs and right-hander and two relievers combined on a three-hit shutout Tuesday night as Double-A San Antonio scored a 6-0 win over Frisco in San Antonio.
Tuesday was memorable for several other performances in the Padres' farm system.
• Catcher Austin Allen was named to the Single-A Midwest League All-Start team. Allen, 22, the Padres' fourth-round pick in 2015, is hitting .309 with Fort Wayne with seven homers and 57 RBIs. He was also the Midwest League's Player of the Month for April.
• Right-hander Walker Lockett, who began the season at Fort Wayne, allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in his Triple-A debut with Triple-A El Paso. Lockett pitched for all four of the Padres' full-season affiliates this season.
• Seventeen-year-old left-hander Omar Fernandez allowed a hit and a walk with three strikeouts in four scoreless innings for the Dominican Summer League Padres to lower his earned run average to 0.76. Fernandez leads the DSL in ERA and WHIP (0.74 batters on base per inning) and has allowed only 33 hits in 59 1/3 innings.
•Center fielder Buddy Reed, the Padres' second-round pick in June, and 17-year-old shortstop both had three hits and two RBIs for short-season Single-A Tri-City and 19-year-old outfielder Dayon Olmo had four hits for the Arizona Rookie Padres.
• Left-handed starter Will Headean, 22, allowed five hits and no walks with seven strikeouts over six scoreless innings for Tri-City.
Designated hitter Quintana, 23, was 3-for-3 with his 26th double and 20th home run for his six-RBI game. He is hitting .252 on the season with 72 RBIs for San Antonio, which improved to 30-27 in the second half with an overall 52-75 record in the Texas League.
Third baseman Josh Van Meter (.203) was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Catcher (.208) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Right fielder Nick Schulz (.283) was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
McCutchen was making his first start with the Missions after being transferred from El Paso. He allowed two hits with no walks over seven shutout innings. Right-hander Michael Dimock struck out one in a perfect inning. Right-hander (4.50) allowed a hit in a scoreless inning.
AROUND THE FARM
TRIPLE-A EL PASO (68-62) - Salt Lake 4, CHIHUAHUAS 2: LF Nick Torres (.315) and 1B (.280) each hit a solo homer in three at-bats. LHP (3.18 ERA) followed Lockett and allowed two runs on three hits in two innings. RHP Eric Yardley (3.35) struck out one in a perfect inning.
ADVANCED SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (31-27, 63-65): RANCHO CUCAMONGA 5, Storm 4: DH Ty France (.324) was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and two runs scored. SS Ruddy Giron (.444) homered in three at-bats. RF Franmil Reyes (.265) was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. 2B Luis Urias (.324) was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Starting RHP Brett Kennedy (3.34 ERA) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts in seven innings. LHP (1.69) allowed a run on a hit in 1 1/3 innings. RHP Phil Maton (3-2, 1.91) allowed a run on two hits without retiring a hitter in a two-run ninth to suffer the loss.
SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (21-37, 57-71) - GREAT LAKES 9, TinCaps 2: LF Tyler Selesky (.333) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. RF Jose Carlos Urena (.214) homered in four at-bats. C Hunter Redman (.333) doubled in three at-bats with a RBI. Starting RHP J.C. Cosme (8-8, 3.38 ERA) allowed four runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts in three innings. RHP Will Stillman (3.24) issued a walk with four strikeouts in three otherwise perfect innings. RHP Corey Kimber (4.00) allowed five runs on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts in two innings.
SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A TRI-CITY (10-16, 29-35) - DUST DEVILS 13, Salem-Keizer 2: Reed (.237) was 3-for-4 with a triple, four runs scored and two RBIs. Tatis (.300) was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. 2B Nate Easley (.270) had two doubles in four at-bats with two RBIs and three runs scored. LF Josh Magee (.194) was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. C Chris Mattison (.162) was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. 1B Kyle Overstreet (.236) drove in three runs despite going 0-for-4. RHP Walker Weickel (6.00 ERA) followed Headean (4-4, 4.22) and allowed an unearned run on three hits with three strikeouts in two innings. RHP Mayky Perez (6.00) allowed a run on four hits with two strikeouts in an inning.
AIZONA ROOKIE PADRES (23-28) - Padres 6, DIAMONDBACKS 2: Olmo (.287) was 4-for-5 with a double, a RBI and a run scored. 1B Luis Anguizola (.256) was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. SS Westhers Magdaleno (.273) was 2-for-4 with a RBI. 2B Jose Savinon (.364) was 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. DH Denzell gowdy (.252) had a triple in three at-bats with two runs scored. CF Aldemar Burgos (.167) had a double in four at-bats with a RBI and a run scored. Starting RHP Reggie Lawson (5.40 ERA), the 71st overall pick in the June draft, allowed two runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. RHP Jonathan Guzman (1-1, 7.88) allowed a hit with a strikeout in 1 1/3 innings. RHP Dominic DiSabatino (9.72) allowed a hit with a strikeout in a scoreless inning.
