Gardenhire repeats new lineup in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- Twins manager Ron Gardenhire shook up the lineup for Interleague Play against the Brewers on Monday, moving Joe Mauer from his yearlong spot hitting second into the three-hole.

Tuesday's lineup looked the same, with Mauer still in the middle of things and Brian Dozier batting second, Josh Willingham fourth and Justin Morneau fifth.

"I just told Gardy, you know, whatever he thinks is best; I just want to hit," Mauer said. "Whether it's second or third, obviously we want to give ourselves the best chance to win. I guess he feels that me hitting third now is our best chance. Hopefully that's the case."

Gardenhire said Monday that pushing Mauer down a spot allowed the Twins to try to put players with speed and bunting ability ahead of him in the lineup.

"See if we can get those guys in the middle to drive 'em in," Gardenhire said. "Just put a few more options in front of them. We'll see. We'll soon find out."

Mauer hit his fourth home run of the year Monday, an opposite-field shot off Brewers reliever Tom Gorzelanny. The home run was just Mauer's second off a left-handed pitcher in the last three seasons. Mauer hit 16 homers off lefties from 2008-10.

"I like hitting here," Mauer said of Miller Park. "It's a beautiful park, and the ball flies a little bit better."
