OAKLAND -- Astros leadoff man George Springer exited Thursday's 12-9 win over the A's at the Coliseum after being hit by a pitch on the left hand from Oakland right-hander Jesse Hahn during the game's first plate appearance.
X-rays came back negative, and Springer is listed as day to day with a left hand contusion.
"Obviously right there, just trying to get out of the way," Springer said. "I'm fortunate I'm OK, and I'll be all right."
The pitch, just the fifth of the game, hit Springer, before he collapsed to the ground and received a visit from Astros manager A.J. Hinch, teammate Josh Reddick and the training staff. Springer stayed on the ground for a few minutes before walking off the field and back toward the Houston clubhouse.
Though the injury initially looked bad, Hinch is hopeful that he can pencil Springer into Friday's lineup for the series opener against Seattle.
"He's already lobbying for leading off tomorrow," Hinch said after the game. "It's good. We were very, very cautious with pulling him out. He wanted to stay in and run and see if he could get the feeling back in his hand, but I told him I wanted to get Jake [Marisnick] in there. It all worked out with Jake hitting a homer and George being OK. It ended up being a really good day for us."
Springer was replaced on the basepaths by pinch-runner Marisnick, who also took over his spot in center field and delivered a three-run homer in an eight-run second.

Springer has been dynamic so far this season, leading the team with 21 homers while toting a .277/.351/.555 slash line. He has already tied a franchise record with eight leadoff homers this year, one shared by himself (2016) and Craig Biggio ('01).
The Astros have been beset by injuries, but they improved upon their Major League-best record (50-24). Starters Dallas Keuchel (neck discomfort), Lance McCullers Jr. (lower back discomfort), Charlie Morton (right lat strain) and Collin McHugh (posterior impingement in right elbow) are all on the 10-day disabled list.
While Marisnick wasn't happy to see his teammate go down with an injury scare, he's just the latest to display his team's "next-man-up" mentality.
"It's been awesome," Marisnick said. "That's kind of been the thing that's kept us rolling. We've got guys who are ready to go. We're deep."
