Hamstring strain forces Parra to exit game

September 8th, 2016

DENVER -- Rockies first baseman exited Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Giants after the first inning with a right hamstring strain.
The injury occurred when he did a split while attempting to complete an out at first base on 's infield single. Parra was seen stretching his right leg in the dugout in the bottom of the inning, and rookie Stephen Cardullo -- who replaced him -- stood in the on-deck circle when his spot was up next that inning.
"It's not too bad," Parra said. "Sometimes we [have to stretch] in the outfield, too. But that's just baseball. You just have to make the out there."
Parra did not get a plate appearance before his removal but did tag out Pence in a stolen-base attempt. The athletic training staff did not think the injury was major.
"I think he tweaked his hamstring," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said after Wednesday's game. "I don't know how serious it is, but I know it's bad enough that he had to come out of the game. We'll check on him tomorrow."
