DENVER -- Rockies left fielder Gerardo Parra sprained his left ankle in a collision with shortstop Trevor Story during the third inning of Tuesday night's 13-10 victory over the Yankees, and will be evaluated Wednesday, manager Walt Weiss said.
Parra rushed in from left to field third-inning leadoff man Jacoby Ellsbury's popup. Story, trying to avoid contact, rolled into the ankle. Parra was left writhing in pain, and was carted off the field. Weiss said he feared the injury was worse.
"I thought it was probably a knee, the way he got rolled up there," Weiss said. "Not that this is a good thing, but all things considered, he was better than I thought he was going to be, because it wasn't the knee."

Ryan Raburn took over in left, and in the bottom of the fourth followed Story's two-run homer with his sixth homer of the season.
The homer was a nice rebound for Story. Weiss said Story was upset about accidentally causing the injury.
"He felt somewhat responsible, but I told him you're going hard after the ball, those things happen on a baseball field," Weiss said. "It's unfortunate, but it happened because he's hustling, trying to make the play, trying to put an out away."
Parra, 29, is hitting .263 with five home runs and 27 RBIs, and is second in the National League with 20 doubles in the first year of a three-year, $27.5 million contract.
"You never want to see your teammate go down," said Rockies right fielder Carlos Gonzalez, a teammate of Parra as well in their home country of Venezuela during winter league play and early in their careers in the D-backs' organization. "He's a big part of this organization and a big part of the team. Right now, what we've got to hope is for him to heal quick and get back in the lineup."
Outfielder Brandon Barnes, who began the year with the Rockies but was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on April 29, was pulled from Albuquerque's game Tuesday night shortly after Parra was injured. No official announcement was made, but he is a logical candidate to replace Parra.
