Pipeline Podcast features Gore, Rutherford, Welker

March 9th, 2018

In this week's edition of the Pipeline Podcast, Jonathan Mayo takes you with him on his tour of the Cactus League, where he had a chance to conduct interviews with several of baseball's top prospects. In addition, Mayo and MLB.com's Tim McMaster discuss Cuban outfielder Julio Pablo Martinez, who has a $2.8 million deal with the Rangers.
Padres No. 2 prospect MacKenzie Gore discusses his huge leg kick, White Sox No. 7 prospect Blake Rutherford talks about the lessons he learned in 2017, and Rockies No. 4 prospect Colton Welker, an alum of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, explains how he is coping with the tragic events in his hometown. Several other prospects share parts of their lives in this episode, as well.

"I got a news alert on my phone or saw on Twitter or something and I just did a double take," Welker said. "It's like a small town, beautiful area and I was just in shock, in disbelief honestly.
"I just reached out, we have a big group chat with my team and my coaches, reached out to say 'I love you guys, hope everything is good' and just [tried to] show my support everywhere, social media just posting stuff out there, messaging families that were affected, stuff like that. I think MLB doing the whole wearing the Douglas hat thing was pretty cool."
