Last chance: Giancarlo needs Final Vote help

Now that he is a candidate to make the American League's roster via the 2018 Camping World MLB Final Vote, Giancarlo Stanton said he might "think of some funny stuff" to bolster his candidacy for the All-Star Game presented by Mastercard. In Aaron Judge's view, his teammate should be able to let his bat do all the talking.

A four-time All-Star in the National League, Stanton is aiming for his first AL selection, hoping to join four other Bombers -- Judge, Luis Severino, Aroldis Chapman and Gleyber Torres -- in Washington for the July 17 Midsummer Classic at Nationals Park. On Wednesday, Stanton was ranked third in the AL field behind the Mariners' Jean Segura and the Red Sox's Andrew Benintendi, with voting set to close at 4 p.m. ET.

"Why should people vote for him? I've got a long list of things; how much time you got?" Judge said. "Just the type of player he is. His consistent at-bats as of late, the home run numbers, he's getting on base and moving guys over. He's just doing all the things that warrant being an All-Star. I know we've got a good fan base in New York City, so just keep on voting."

The winner of the 2017 NL Most Valuable Player Award, Stanton is bouncing back from a rocky beginning to his Yankees career. He's hitting .269/.340/.514 with 18 doubles, one triple, 22 homers and 52 RBIs in 89 games.

"It'd mean a lot," Stanton said. "It's always a fun time, the All-Star festivities and being with the teammates, being with guys you played with. Just enjoying it out there."

Yankees manager Aaron Boone believes Stanton has been a pro throughout his adjustment to New York, including his willingness to play the outfield corners, take on duties as a designated hitter and change lineup spots. He hopes that Yankees fans recognize that selfless demeanor.

"Vote for Giancarlo. He should be at the nation's capital next week," Boone said. "I certainly think New York and Yankees fans appreciate resilience. Sometimes it's not always smooth sailing, but I think when you go about things the right way and you're able to grind through and persevere, this is a place that will wrap [their] arms around you. Hopefully they do this week."

Of being a Final Vote candidate, Stanton said, "It's cool, especially with the super-slow start. I've been pushing for a while now. I've still got some more to do."
