October 5th, 2017

MIAMI -- Marlins right fielder just wrapped up one of the best individual seasons in franchise history. His breakout year has drawn him consideration for a couple of prestigious Major League Players Choice Awards.
Stanton on Thursday was recognized as one of three finalists for National League Outstanding Player and MLB Player of the Year. The winners will be announced on MLB Network at 8 p.m. ET on Nov. 8.
For Player of the Year, Stanton is in the running with Astros second baseman and Rockies third baseman . And for NL Outstanding Player, Stanton is joined by Arenado and Rockies center fielder Charlie Blackmon.

Stanton, 27, led the Majors in home runs (59) and RBIs (132), and he also paced the National League in slugging percentage (.631).
The 59 home runs were the most in the Majors since 2001, when Barry Bonds set the MLB record for most home runs in a season with 73. Sammy Sosa hit 64 that season. Only six players in MLB history have hit as many as 59 home runs in a year.
Stanton's slash line was .281/.376/.631, with an OPS of 1.007.
The slugger added 123 runs scored and played in a career-high 159 games.
Stanton, a strong NL Most Valuable Player Award candidate, is the first player in Marlins' history to lead the Majors in home runs and RBIs.
The Players Choice Awards are the highest honors as voted on by the players, and the awards benefit the MLB Players Trust.
