SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy arrived at camp with his left arm in a sling, the product of arthroscopic surgery he underwent on his left shoulder Monday.
The procedure, performed by team orthopedist Dr. Ken Akizuki, involved repairing a torn labrum, reattaching a biceps tendon and removing bone spurs. Two hours after the surgery, Bochy was on a plane bound for Spring Training.
Bochy, 60, said that he lived in discomfort for months. He revealed that he needed three cortisone shots last year to cope with the pain.
"Putting on a jacket would kill me," Bochy said Wednesday as Giants pitchers and catchers reported to camp and underwent physical examinations.
At the outset of Spring Training last year, Bochy had two stents placed near his heart after experiencing discomfort.
