Nunez (hamstring) to be re-evaluated Friday

Third baseman will sit remainder of series with Braves, DL stint possible

June 21st, 2017

ATLANTA -- The Giants are concerned about third baseman ' left hamstring and have decided to sit him for the remainder of the four-game set against the Braves.
Nunez had an MRI Tuesday and the results showed more hamstring inflammation. He will test the hamstring before Friday's home game against the Mets. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Nunez will do some running drills Friday, but he didn't rule out the possibility of a stint on the disabled list.
"We will re-evaluate him on Friday, as on the disabled list you can retroactive it for three days," Bochy said. "If he is not ready then, he will go to the disabled list."
Nunez appeared to re-aggravate the hamstring injury after sliding head-first into first base during Monday's series opener against the Braves. He finished the game but wasn't in Tuesday or Wednesday's lineup.
He has been a key contributor for the Giants, batting .407 (22-for-54) with runners in scoring position. Nunez also has a 30-game on-base streak that is the longest active stretch in the Majors. His presence is important to a Giants offense that is missing and among others.
"He has what you love in a good athlete," Bochy said. "He can run well, steal a base and has some pop and has a good arm."
Injury notes
threw 35 pitches in a simulated game at the Giants Arizona complex in Scottsdale, Ariz., Wednesday. He threw 20 in the first inning and threw 15 more in the second inning after a rest period. He has been on the disabled list since April 21 with bruised ribs and a sprain in his left shoulder's AC joint. Bumgarner is scheduled to pitch three innings in the Arizona Rookie League Sunday. If that goes well, he will start his Minor League rehab assignment.
• Gillaspie is hitting well as he comes back from back spasms. He is 8-for-27 in eight games with Triple-A Sacramento.
• Outfielders (fractured right clavicle) and Morse (concussion) are progressing from their injuries. Parker has begun his rehab assignment and Morse is still overcoming concussion symptoms.
