Giants will take it slow with Pence's injury

March 1st, 2016

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Giants right fielder Hunter Pence might be able to shake off his right Achilles tendinitis and begin appearing in Cactus League exhibitions in a week, manager Bruce Bochy said Monday.
Pence, who reported the injury Saturday, said the team's medical staff will treat his injury "conservatively," without feeling pressure to rush him back into action. Bochy has planned on playing most of his regulars sparingly during the first few weeks of exhibitions to avoid tiring them and risking preventable injuries.
"The goal is to be ready for the season," Pence said.
Pence was scheduled to undergo an MRI examination late Monday afternoon to verify that he wasn't seriously injured.
