SAN FRANCISCO -- The bad news for Giants outfielder Jarrett Parker was that he needed surgery Sunday to repair his fractured right clavicle.
The good news for Parker is that he'll likely play again this season.
The Giants announced that Parker, the Opening Day left fielder, could be sidelined for eight to 10 weeks. The 28-year-old underwent surgery, which was performed by team orthopedist Dr. Ken Akizuki, one day after running full speed into AT&T Park's left-field wall as he caught DJ LeMahieu's drive.
Bochy said that the possibility of playing later in the season buoyed Parker's spirits.
"He was really down, to be honest," Bochy said. "The kid's finally getting an opportunity to play in the Major Leagues, and to have this setback in the early go. ... but I think he feels better that he'll be back this year."

The Giants replenished their 25-man active roster and replaced Parker, who hit .143 with 10 strikeouts in 21 at-bats, by recalling reliever Steven Okert from Triple-A Sacramento.
The Giants' decision-makers figured that Okert's value as a left-handed complement to Ty Blach exceeded the need for another outfielder -- particularly given next weekend's series against Colorado at Coors Field, where pitching staffs often are taxed.
Okert, who is already in his second stint with the Giants this season, delivered two scoreless appearances spanning two innings with three strikeouts for Sacramento.

• Another roster move appears imminent, given catcher Buster Posey's improved health. Continuing his recovery from concussion symptoms, catcher Posey affirmed that he felt "very good. ... as normal as normal can be," indicating that he'll be activated when the Giants begin their two-game Interleague series at Kansas City on Tuesday. Posey expressed some necessary caution about his physical condition: "With these things, you don't ever want to declare something too soon."
• In a swap of Minor Leaguers, the Giants sent right-hander Clayton Blackburn to the Rangers for middle infielder Frandy De La Rosa and cash considerations. Blackburn was designated for assignment this past week when the Giants needed a 40-man roster spot to add catcher Tim Federowicz as Posey went on the 7-day concussion list. De La Rosa, 21, hit .107 (3-for-28) in eight games this year for Texas' Class A Advanced affiliate. He will report to the Giants' Class A Augusta affiliate.
