Giants lose Kieschnick on waivers to D-backs

LOS ANGELES -- Outfielder Roger Kieschnick's tenure with the Giants organization ended Friday, when he was claimed off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks and sent to Triple-A Reno.

Kieschnick, 27, hit .202 in 38 games for the Giants last year, his fifth in the organization after being selected in the third round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. He showed power in the Minor Leagues, hitting 71 homers. But Kieschnick couldn't duplicate that trait in his limited appearances with the Giants, recording a .226 slugging percentage in 84 at-bats.

This spring, Kieschnick was eclipsed by Juan Perez in the competition for a reserve outfield spot.

"There's always mixed emotions," assistant general manager Bobby Evans said. "You like to keep a guy, but there's an opportunity to stay on a 40-man roster and maybe get a 25-man spot. We want to see our guys do well. That's good for him. We're sorry that our roster got to where it got and it forced us to make a tough decision with him."
