Scutaro, Affeldt make progress in spring work

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Marco Scutaro increased his baseball-related activity Sunday, leaving manager Bruce Bochy feeling optimistic that the second baseman could begin participating in exhibition games by the end of the week.

Left-hander Jeremy Affeldt, who has been careful not to aggravate his groin injury, gingerly took part in a fielding drill and was included on the list of pitchers for Monday's "B" game against the Cubs at Mesa.

Mild discomfort in Brandon Belt's neck forced the first baseman to leave Sunday's exhibition game against Arizona in the fourth inning.
