Morse might not be ready for Wild Card game

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants know they'll be playing in the National League Wild Card game Wednesday, but they don't know who they'll be playing, where they'll be playing, or if Michael Morse will be available to play.

Asked about Morse's availability for this weekend's four-game series with the Padres, manager Bruce Bochy listed Morse's status as "doubtful."

"He's trying to get ready," Bochy said, "but I just don't see that happening."

Barring an unexpected quick turnaround in the next day or two, Morse won't start the Wild Card game, but Bochy said there's a possibility that Morse could be used as a pinch-hitter Wednesday.

Morse has been sidelined since Aug. 31 with a strained oblique. He hit .280/.338/.477 with 16 home runs and 61 RBIs in 436 at-bats this season.
