Baer: Take pride, be humble, celebrate baseball

Fourth-generation San Franciscan has been influential as club president

SAN FRANCISCO -- You might say that Larry Baer is a man of the people.

The fourth-generation San Franciscan grew up idolizing the Giants. He therefore understands what fans want, need and deserve. Having held his role of club president since Oct. 2008, Baer has worked tirelessly toward making the Giants a winner. Their three World Series titles in the past five years reflect the success of Baer's efforts.

With the arrival of Presidents' Day -- and Spring Training closing in -- Baer delivered a succinct message to the Giants' constituents:

"No. 1, take pride and reflect, because the joint accomplishment of the fans and the players and the organization is pretty historic.

"Two, you always have to remember to be humble and know that every year is a new year, and you certainly can't be complacent.

"Three, baseball's the greatest game, so let's continue to celebrate it."
